Seven Seeds – Carlton

Seven Seeds 106 Berkeley St. Carlton
Seven Seeds is a small micro roaster. They source green coffee from around the world and concentrate on Estate, Micro lot and Single Origin coffees. Located amongst the buildings of Melbourne Uni this warehouse conversion cafe is very spacious.

After the disastrous coffee experience at the Auction Rooms we took a lovely stroll to this great coffee house. Coffee was great, I didn’t try any food but it seems to be a typical cafe selection of patisseries and baked goods. And using the toilets at this venue is an experience, I was sent through a big old rolling door and down a hall line with chrome pipes and vats which are you for the coffee roasting. It was also nice to be served by lovely laid back waiter and baristas who don’t scoff at you. -I still can’t get over that dick from AR!- (Scott)
Seven Seeds should be arrogant. They have every right to. Yet they are not. The ultimate feeling after leaving here is one of bliss. The staff look egdy but are some of the nicest wait staff i have ever dealt with. Happy to make suggestions and happy to serve (such a rarity). It’s not really a cafe. It has a very small menu with pastries presumably from Dench Bakery. The real star is the coffee. Its smooth, rich and creamy. There was no reaching for the sugar to mask the bitter taste of a unclean handle. The space is beautiful. My only complaint is the place is so popular and so small that i fear i will never get a seat! (Nick)
I think a walk to Seven Seeds was just the medicine to cure us of ‘Auction Room Fever’, not to be confused with ‘BBQ Fever’. ‘Auction Room Fever’ is not nice, ‘BBQ Fever’ is wicked awesome. Any who, Seven Seeds is just lovely. Beautifully roasted coffee served at lovely temperature, topped with a clean rosetta. They obviously view coffee as a performance, and a great performance was given. We could see a cupping workshop taking place in the centre room, and it was refreshing to see the staff being trained correctly in the art of coffee making. Maybe didn’t need the brioche, but it was still totes awes as. (Will)
Bagel Rating!
Scott: 8/10 - definitely recommend this place for a coffee. A nice little cafe oasis.
Nick: 10/10 for coffee purrrrfection! As a cafe i would give it less. But I don’t think they claim to be one. BLESS.
Will: 8.5/10 – deserves a return visit. Taste buds had been tainted by earlier sour experience. Brioche could have been warmed too.
